For the first time ever, the Indian men’s national football team will participate in the CAFA Nations Cup 2025 — a regional tournament organized by the Central Asian Football Association. The event is scheduled to take place from August 31 to September 8 in Dushanbe, Tajikistan, marking a strategic step in India’s efforts to integrate deeper into Asian football.

Beyond exposure, the CAFA Nations Cup serves as a crucial preparation platform for India ahead of the final round of AFC Asian Cup 2027 qualifiers.
“This is a golden opportunity for us to test our lineup and play against physically and tactically strong Central Asian teams,” said an AIFF official.
India’s head coach position remains vacant for now. However, the AIFF plans to announce the new coach by August 1, with Khalid Jamil, Stephen Constantine, and Stefan Tarkovic among the final contenders.
“Choosing the right head coach at this moment is crucial, as this person will lead India through both the CAFA Cup and the upcoming Asian Cup qualifiers,” a senior AIFF source said.
