New Delhi – Gautam Gambhir, former captain of Kolkata Knight Riders and ex-coach of Lucknow Super Giants in the IPL, has found himself in hot water following a series of controversial remarks and decisions in recent weeks.
In a recent television interview, Gambhir stated that “Indian players are being worshipped too much, and not everyone deserves to be hailed as a legend.” Though he didn’t name names, many fans interpreted the comment as a subtle jab at cricket icons like Virat Kohli and MS Dhoni, igniting widespread backlash.
Across platforms like Twitter and Instagram, hashtags such as #GambhirOut का #RespectLegends began trending. Many fans accused Gambhir of being ungrateful and disrespectful toward players who have significantly contributed to Indian cricket.
“Gautam was a World Cup hero in 2011, but now he’s just creating drama instead of supporting the game,” one user wrote on X.
Former teammates such as Irfan Pathan, Harbhajan Singh, and Mohammad Kaif offered neutral comments, but some subtly urged Gambhir to “maintain respect” when speaking publicly about the sport and its heroes.
In addition to his cricket roles, Gambhir is currently serving as a Member of Parliament for the BJP. Critics argue that he may be using controversial statements to gain attention for political reasons rather than for the betterment of cricket.
Once a national hero, Gautam Gambhir’s recent remarks have significantly dented his public image. As sports and politics become increasingly intertwined, public figures must be more cautious and responsible in their messaging.
